A musician of marvellous talent and spontaneity who moves every member of the audience
From Fukuoka, Japan, Sayuri Shirai is a marimba player with Down’s syndrome. When Sayuri Shirai met Dr Chan Cheong Jan, the multi-genre performer-scholar, a musical chemistry grew between them and they formed the Sayuri Trio. Sayuri has performed in front of a wide variety of audiences including the disabled and the elderly in Japan, as well as school children in Malaysia.
In this lecture demonstration, Dr Chan will share with us the story of Sayuri Shirai, accompanied by rehearsal footage and performance clips exclusively recorded by Sayuri Trio members from different places of residences.
