"VISION" Work-in-Progress Project
Programme Introduction
Our world is not only what we see; it is what we sense. This truth is embodied in the experiences of visually impaired individuals, who show us how space can be mapped by sound and human connection can be felt through the simple act of touch.
It is this revelation that inspires renowned French choreographer and visual artist Eric Minh Cuong Castaing, founder of Shonen company, and his team to create Vision. The project will bring together local participants with visual impairments for a series of workshops in April 2026. Here, they will discover a shared language of movement guided by tactility and sound, forming a deeply connected ensemble built on trust and interaction.
The project culminates in a public performance that blurs the line between stage and audience. Audiences are invited to step into the shared space, wandering alongside the dancers and becoming part of the moving group. The performance is transformed into a journey of shared discovery—an invitation to explore what it truly means to “see”, and to find a more profound human connection rooted in senses beyond the visual.

Éric Minh Cuong Castaing
French choreographer Éric Minh Cuong Castaing founded the Shōnen company in 2007. His creations are known for fusing dance with new technologies, guided by a core practice he describes as “in socius” - a deep engagement with communities outside the art world through close partnerships with institutions like research labs, schools, and hospitals. Through this process, Castaing explores how the body is represented in the digital era, questioning the established boundaries between art and society, reality and fiction, nature and culture, the organic and the artificial.
A graduate of Gobelins Paris, Castaing's choreography is deeply influenced by hip-hop, Japanese Butoh, and contemporary dance. He has been an Associate Artist for prestigious institutions and art festivals including the National Ballet of Marseille and the Montpellier Danse festival.
